Learn About The Types Of Sun Damaged Skin Treatments In NYC

Most of us anxiously wait for summer, so we can enjoy the warmth and the light of the sun. Even though our bodies are naturally built to absorb and make use of sunlight, too much exposure to the sun can cause severe damage to the skin. Excessive sun exposure is associated with various causes of skin damage such as aging skin, pigmentation, and skin cancers. Exposure to the sun can make your skin lose its elasticity and cause wrinkles. Your skin is naturally built to prevent or repair sun damage, which is why the skin may peel off after a severe burn. But, as you age, it becomes harder for the skin to repair itself.

Sun Damaged Skin Treatment
What are the common types of skin damage due to sun exposure?
Dry skin – prolonged exposure to the sun can cause the skin to gradually lose moisture and natural oils, making the skin dry, flaky, and cause wrinkles at an early age.
Sunburn – When your skin is exposed to the UV radiation of the sun, the injury it causes is called sunburn. If it’s a mild burn, then it can cause painful red skin, but if it’s severe, then fluid filled bumps or blisters appear.
Actinic keratosis – this is usually caused when the skin gets harshly damaged by UV rays. It is a tiny scaly bump, which feels like sand paper when touched. The color of it varies between red, yellow, or brownish shade. Unlike common sunburns, actinic keratosis doesn’t go away unless it’s treated medically. Actinic keratosis increases the risk of skin cancer.

What can help sun damaged skin?
Prevention is always better than cure, and this same theory applies to skin damage. If you take the following precautions, it can lessen the chances of sun damage on the skin,

  • Using broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30, or more, before being exposed to the sun
  • Wearing UV protecting glasses
  • Keeping hydrated during sun exposure
  • Covering the skin when going out in the sun
